    With a background in mechanical engineering, Alvise Cavallari  spent nearly 20 years in the machine industry, in particular equipment for packaging printing and equipment for laser cutting.

    Then three years ago he “jumped the fence” and moved from B2B to B2C, joining Nestlé in R&D for packaging. Putting into contribution his understanding of the printing world, he is now heading a global initiative -cross businesses and across applications- whose scope is to understand, promote and drive the potential of digital printing and finishing for our businesses.

  • Donald Allred

    VP Packaging Memjet

    An innovator and product conceptualizer, Mr. Allred has worked with inkjet technology for over 35 years, in a variety of technical, marketing, and business leadership positions.  He holds patents in inks, inkjet systems, inkjet applications, and inkjet materials.  Mr. Allred has been working with inkjet and packaging from the early days of inkjet at Iris Graphics (a Scitex Company), Accent Color Sciences (one of the first inkjet integrators), through the more recent times with Kodak (bringing Prosper technology into packaging and various applications).  After a very brief retirement this past summer from Kodak, Mr. Allred returned to the inkjet community with Memjet to help expand the business with the introduction of the newest Memjet technology, DuraLink.

She is passionate about customer experience and retail-tainment, colour consistency and ecologically mindful solutions to print and manufacture.

  • Peter Buttiens

    CEO ESMA vzw, Belgium

    Peter Buttiens  has a Msc. Industrial engineering & Computer Technology. He has also received in 2002 an International executive MBA from Vlerick Business School.

    Since 1991, he has been working as different international sales and marketing positions for companies such as Summagraphics, CADlink, Mutoh and Ergosoft.

    As of March 2007, he works as CEO at ESMA, ESMA is the European Association for Industrial Printing. In Europe, the association brings together suppliers, printers and consultants with a total of over 70 members. This includes all the specialized, functional and industrial printing using screen and digital process for large format, printed Electronics (NFC, RFID, conductive,…), automotive parts, in mold decoration (IMD), technical and decorative glass and plastic, textile printing applications. Peter has been stimulating the developments of bio-medical printing solutions because he sees this as the cross road of functional and printed electronics and this will be the next big opportunity for the printing industry in healthcare sector.

    Marco joined Uteco Group at the beginning of 2017 to develop and manage complex projects in equipment engineering.  Starting in 2018, he has taken the responsibility of managing the development and commercialization of the digital press equipment portfolio, including the Sapphire EVO press.  He currently holds the position of Project Manager & Product Manager for the Digital Printing Division at UTECO Group..

    Marco has developed his technical and managerial experience with a number of private and multinational companies, in the field of specialized automatic machines with high technological level.

  • Nick Campbell

    Director of Technology Screen GP IJC Ltd., UK

    Nick Campbell studied Physics at Cambridge University and completed a Ph.D. in Engineering.  He has worked for technical consultancies, an electron microscope manufacturer and a simulation software company.  Since 2002 he has worked at Inca Digital Printers Ltd as a project manager and system architect.  More recently he has been seconded to work for Screen GP IJC Ltd on a joint development project with BHS Corrugated.  He is the system architect of the single pass print engine used for inline printing onto liner paper for the manufacture of corrugated board.


  • Gerardo Cerros

    In 2001, he was employed by an international company in Belgium that specialized in the development of color management and contract proofing technologies. In 2004, he was promoted to Sales Manager and increase sales by 80% achieving 45% of the company’s turnover. 

CMA was founded in 2006 while Gerardo was studying his MBA by distance learning. The company’s strategy was to offer a unique technical solution and services to the commercial proofing applications industry. In 2008, ColorPortal Europe SA was created - a joint venture dedicated to promoting color standardization for the printing industry with top-notch press-room and pre-press solutions.

  • Dr. Simon Daplyn

    Marketing Manager Sensient Imaging Technologies, UK, Switzerland

    Dr Simon Daplyn Joined Sensient 2015 as part of their acquisition of Xennia Technology Ltd and is the Marketing Manager for the digital inks group.  

    Simon has experience in development of digital inks and processes, commercial implementation and direct sales across a number of applications and industires.

    Before joining Xennia Simon gained a PhD for work on Inkjet Printing onto Textiles from the University of Leeds, UK.  Simon then went on to work for Nanojet Ink based in Newcastle upon Tyne where he was Technical Manager of ink developments.

    More than 20 years of experience in Development, Packaging and Decoration in Cosmetics at L'Oreal on Skincare, Make Up and Perfumes (Most iconic launches I realised on perfume category was Viktor & Rolf (flowerbomb), Diesel (Fuel for Life, Only the Brave), Armani (Aqua di Gioia) and M. Martin Margiela Untitled).

    I am currently in charge of the Finishing and Printing Expertise for L'Oréal worldwide.

    Meaning that my team and I  work on all the Finishing technologies (metallization, hot stamping, pad printing...) and Printing technologies (offset, Flexo, cold stamping, digital...) for all materials and packaging components as glass bottles, plastics caps or bottles, cardboard, sleeves and labels.

    Our objectives are to set rules & educate, to improve the process and to capture our future for these technologies to serve the Quality, Time to Market and Agility that L’Oréal business need by working with all of our suppliers.

    Nowadays, Decoration is one of the key factor for the brands/consumer especially in terms of perceived value. It is also a way of product differentiation among all the product ranges and an increasing part of the packaging costs.“

    Working within the Global Packaging Procurement team based in Amsterdam the Netherlands, Yves is responsible for the sourcing of printing and ink solutions for the different business units of Danone. An exciting role that allows him to work with many brands and operations teams across the globe to optimize printing technologies and to promote and support digital printing projects. With a supply chain background and 15 years working experience, Yves is today advocating the opportunities that digital printing can offer, for brand activation as  well as within agile operations.

    Jon Harper-Smith is the business development manager for Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems, and is responsible for the digitisation of new markets.  A key focus is to drive ink jet development of industrial and package printing markets.

    Jon has a strong technical and commercial background that has enabled him to develop and grow a number of international businesses. He worked for many years for Sericol before their acquisition by Fujifilm and has a wide experience of ink and print technologies, specialising in industrial print and conversion processes.

  • Jan De Roeck

    Jan De Roeck (°1966) leads and coordinates the market research and market visibility activities at Esko. From its headquarters in Gent, Belgium, Jan is actively involved in the creation of value proposition content supporting the go to market process for Esko solutions comprising software, hardware and services for the packaging, display and printing industry. Jan’s primary focus goes to content creation, market research, market visibility (CRM) and corporate strategy formulation.

    With a general printing and pre-press background and a specialization in graphic design, Jan began in 1989 with Barco as application specialist for digital image retouching. In his many years with the company, Jan held various product management and marketing positions, developing a particular interest, acumen and experience in solutions and workflows for the Packaging and Label Industry. Since early 2006, Jan holds the position of Director Solutions Management. At Esko, Jan is highly respected and trusted for his insight in the graphic arts industry and his level of understanding customer workflows and market requirements. Jan is a frequently asked speaker and moderator at various international seminars, events and trade conferences and represents Esko at different professional trade associations.

    Jan holds a degree from the Hoger Instituut voor Grafische Opleidingen (Higro), Grafische Vormgeving en Zeefdruk (Graphic Design and Screenp Printing). He complemented his graphic arts education with management training programs at the Ghent-Leuven Vlerick Business School where he completed the Advanced Management Program in 2007.

Markus graduated in both Chemistry as well as Business Administration from RWTH Aachen University, Germany and joined Siegwerk in 2014. He is married and has one daughter.

    Melianthe has been working for O-I, the world's largest glass container manufacturer, since 8 years and has a background in Marketing.  She has held several positions within O-I’s commercial department covering Marketing Communication, Category Management and Innovation.  Over the past 4 years she has been working with a multidisciplinary team in O-I to explore and validate direct2shape digital printing technologies for glass packaging.

    In May 2018, Melianthe got appointed Global Innovation Platform Director for O-I.  As part of this role she is overseeing the commercialization and global expansion of O-I : EXPRESSIONS (www.discoverexpressions.com), O-I’s platform offering personalization and customization services for brands enabled by direct2glass digital printing.

  • Maximilian Mark

    Maximilian Mark was born in 1986. He studied economics and engineering at the University of Applied Siences of Weiden and started as a R&D engineer at BHS in the year 2011.
    He is into digital printing from day one at BHS and built-up a team for research and process development in that area.

    Since mid of last year he has took over the responsibility for product management for the upcoming digital printing solution of BHS as well and is doing his best to set the right development targets for a tailor-made product for the corrugated board market.

  • Rick Mazur

    Rick brings over 20+  years of experience in offset, flexo and digital printing production, along with functional background in sales enablement, outbound marketing execution, product development and demand generation for Kodak solutions that help commercial, publications and packaging printers participate more profitably with their customers. 

    Today, Rick leads Kodak’s efforts worldwide to employ inkjet digital printing to introduce innovative solutions that enable packaging designers and converters to deliver on a wide range of brand strategies including consumer engagement, package functionality, sustainability, and improved time to market, that only digital print can deliver.  This is accomplished by leveraging Kodak’s leading research and development competencies in digital imaging, material science and deposition technologies that are the building blocks for delivering the most productive inkjet printing solutions in the market today.

    Rick has held previous leadership positions with Kodak Polychrome Graphics and International Paper and has been active within industry organizations, such as Printing Industries of America, National Printing Equipment and Supplies (NPES), Book Manufacturers Institute (BMI) and Primir.

    Rick holds a BA in Economics from Rutgers University and MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and resides with his wife Susan and four children in Ridgefield, CT.

    David has worked across the print industry for over 30 years. His early career was as a pre-press lithographic specialist and then a test printer. In 2000, David moved into the Ink Industry as a UV Flexo Technical Sales Manager and progressed into commercial and business management roles across Lithographic, Flexographic and Screen printing inks as Sales Manager for Sun Chemical Ireland. In 2017, David gained and Executive MBA from Ulster University and moved into the SunJet Digital Inks business with Sun Chemical as Global Sales Manager, serving Sun’s OEM customers across the globe.

  • Mike Ring

    Michael V. Ring (born in 1965) is the Vice President of Digital Solutions & General Manager of the Gallus Labelfire 340 at Gallus Ferd. Ruesch AG which is part of the Heidelberg Group.

    Ring has thirty years of demonstrated success in management, sales, marketing, and international business.  He has extensive experience in achieving market share objectives, sales growth targets and timely product development by building and motivating high-performing teams. Ring was the former President of Xeikon America, and has held leadership positions at Kodak, Georgia Pacific and Xerox.

    Additionally, he has been a board member for both Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute (TLMI) and the Association for Print Technologies, formally NPES where he was Chairman. Furthermore, he has been inducted as a member of the industry’s prestigious Soderstrom Society.

    He completed his undergraduate work at Providence College and has done graduate work at both Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and Harvard Business School.

    Married and father of one son, Ring is a resident of Switzerland and lives with his wife in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

  • Sean Smyth

    Print Consultant Smithers Pira, UK

    Sean Smyth has spent over 25 years in the industry in senior technology positions for a variety of print businesses across the supply chain, in hands on and consultancy roles. He helps companies make money through the appropriate use of technology.

    Sean has a deep knowledge of the global print market, and a key member of the team providing quantitative market data and forecasts for the printing, paper and packaging industry. He authors off-the-shelf market studies and provides strategic consultancy services to a range of clients across the value chain.

    Sean has a strong background in appropriate application of technology to print, implementing digital print systems, MIS and workflows to take time and cost out of the print supply chain. In 1994 he became Technical Director of Rexam, where the first colour digital presses in the UK were installed and he has extensive experience of digital printing. He has written many books and market studies on the future, print technology and digital print, including Smithers Pira's flagship title "The Print & Production Manual" and the "Future of Global Print Markets".

    He has held senior management roles for several large and small print and print management companies where he applied systems and technology to improve efficiencies. He has a very strong background in digital printing, for users and suppliers. Currently he acts as a non-executive Director at REAL Digital International, the pioneer of high volume inkjet and electrophotographic print. He is the editor of "Digital Labels and Packaging" launched in 2010 for Whitmar Publications, and contributes regular technology columns and articles for the Trade Press and Smithers Pira journals

  • Tony Snyder

    Tony Snyder joined the tobacco industry in 1992 and his varied career has taken him around the world with roles in tobacco procurement, factory management and R&D in three continents, including 12 years leading global product development at PMI. Based in Lausanne, Switzerland, with satellite teams in Neuchatel, Bologna, Saint Petersburg, Izmir, Manilla, Surabaya, Mexico City and Buenos Aries, the organization is responsible for blending, cigarette design and packaging activities and the global deployment of PMI’s portfolio of conventional and reduced risk tobacco products.

    The business transformation to drive a Smoke-Free Future has enhanced our need for speed to market, agility and scale, areas where digital printing has the potential to make a real contribution. With a dedicated team working on digital solutions, PMI’s first hybrid digital print line is in commercial production for folding box board packaging.

  • Zsolt Tarjanyi

    In 2012, after his university studies Zsolt joined OWN-X, a Hungarian start-up company as a software engineer. He leaded the integration team to develop the WideStar-2000 (a.k.a. Vortex 4200), which has been successfully brought to the market as the first Memjet based, wide format printer. OWN-X was bought by Canadian Reprographics International Ltd., who expanded the international sales of the Vortex printers. Zsolt continued to work as a consultant, and has moved to Rigoli FIME in Milan, where the printers and finishing equipments have been manufactured. In 2016 Rigoli s.r.l. (successor of Rigoli FIME) became an OEM partner of Memjet, and Zsolt joined as General Manager. In 2018 Rigoli launched the Memjet powered MVZ 1000 printer for flexible packaging where Zsolt has played a key role in the development team.     With 30 years’ experience in the print and packaging industries Nigel started his career in Die Making following an education at the London College of Printing. Now Head of Packaging at Scodix, a leading provider of digital print enhancement. Nigel’s passion is to bring digital processes to the packaging Industry with a strong focus in finishing. Working with packaging producers as well as brand owners to create profitable business growth through true brand differentiation in today’s highly competitive printing market. With a special interest in the folding carton and corrugated board industries, Nigel works with businesses to see how Scodix technology can boost the profitability and efficiency of their business models.

    Previously Nigel held senior positions at Highcon and Bobst, and is based in Switzerland.

    Gilad is a veteran with over 30 years’ experience in the print industry. He began his career in R&D at Indigo, rising to manage the development of the product portfolio. Following his passion for a more market-facing role, he moved to lead the worldwide Service team at Indigo, overseeing its transition to a more responsive, customer-focused organization.

    One of the first people approached by Benny Landa when setting up Landa Digital Printing, Gilad has been in charge of product strategy since the beginning, defining and championing a portfolio of products, based on Landa’s Nanographic printing process, that meet the real challenges of today’s commercial printers and packaging converters.

    The customer remains at the heart of Gilad’s approach to product strategy, and, having visited hundreds of printers & converters in dozens of countries across 5 continents, he still claims to learn something new from every customer he meets.

    Wolfram Verwuester is a print and business expert with more than 20 years’ experience in the graphics art and packaging industry. Wolfram is the global Segment Director of Durst Digital Technology, a leading and trusted specialist for industrial inkjet applications. He manages the strategically important Segment of Corrugated Packaging & Display Printing within the Durst Group.

    Prior to his career at Durst Group, Wolfram was Sales Director DACH and then seven years as Business Director at Esko, a member of the global science and technology enterprise Danaher, a NYSE Fortune 200 company. In this senior role he led the Packaging Business Division in the heart of Europe. Other important stepping-stones include managerial positions with Esko Artwork, Barco Graphics, as well as with Duropack Packaging (now DS Smith Group).

    Ed Wiegand is currently the President of JetFx Inc, a new print engine technology company delivering digital printing embellishments to multiple markets.. He has accumulated 30 years of skills with advanced experience in the Packaging Industry.. 

    Ed Wiegand served as Executive Vice President of Sancoa International & TubeDec LLC, a world class New Jersey-based label and tube manufacturer. He was involved in the formation of TubeDec in 2004. Throughout his career Wiegand has been named to five U.S. patents from both industries

    In 2006, Wiegand was named VP of Sales and managed top accounts that included Proctor & Gamble, L’Oreal, Johnson & Johnson and others. Two years later he was responsible for the start-up of new digital business. More recently, he helped manage the global expansion strategy with the company’s chairman and led strategy for new developments and technology.

    He sits on HP Indigo’s Global Advisory Board for Packaging that helps create the strategies and solutions for the digital print industry. He was a member of the Digital Solutions Cooperative (Dscoop) North American advisory board between 2013 and 2016. Dscoop is the largest digital users group in the world. Wiegand is an accomplished speaker, participating at several Flexographic Trade Association (FTA), Tags and Labels Manufacturer Institute (TLMI) and (Dscoop) functions.
