  • Fernando Gomez

    Printing and Connectivity, Materials Technology and Innovations Unilever, UK

    Born in Colombia South America, graduated in 2006 from Kings College London, with a degree in molecular and cellular genetics.

    Between 2006-2012 worked for Procter and Gamble, on brands such as Wella, Pantene, Head and shoulders, Herbal Essences, and fine fragrance perfumes and ancillaries for Hugo Boss, Lacoste, Jean Patu, Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci.

    In 2012 joined Unilever as part of the Materials Technology and Innovations team, based in port sunlight. Specifically focusing on ‘printing’ related technologies including; 3D printing, printed electronics, smart device communications, IOT integration and Digital printing.

    The aim of the MTI group is to explore novel and disruptive technologies with Category Packaging & Procurement teams to differentiate Unilever branded products on-self, excite the consumer during use and reduce the environmental impact of the product.

  • Paddy O’Hara

    Director of Technology Industrial Inkjet Ltd., UK

    Paddy has over 20 years of experience in the industrial inkjet market. After graduating in Mechanical Engineering from Brunel University in 1996, he joined a small technology start up company called Xaar. Over the next 11 years as the company grew to a large manufacturing company, he held a number of senior technical roles ranging from Quality Assurance Manager to Product Proving Manager, specialising in inkjet application performance and technical trouble shooting.

    He joined Industrial Inkjet Ltd in 2007 as Engineering Manager, rising to Director of Technology, which incorporates directing the development of new products and business development of new markets whilst supporting Konica Minolta’s printhead OEMs outside of Asia.

    Industrial Inkjet Ltd (IIJ) was established in 2005 to provide technical and sales support to customers of Konica Minolta Inkjet Technology outside of Asia. Since that time, IIJ has also developed its own range of high speed single-pass inkjet print engines, working with many major companies worldwide to apply inkjet to new applications. It now has total sales of approximately £7.3million.

     

  • Victor Abergel

    Executive Vice President & Managing Director MGI Digital Technology Group, France

    In 1982, Victor founded MGI. He served in different various positions, including: Vice President of International Sales and New Business Development and Executive Officer of MGI USA before taking on his current role as Executive Vice President and Managing Director in 2006. A graduate of the Paris Bar, as an Attorney, Victor also lectured in Tax Law at the Pantheon-Sorbonne University, Paris. In 1998 he was appointed, by the French Prime Minister, in the Council of Ministers, as Counsellor for Foreign Trade of France.

  • Dr. Kai K. O. Bär

    Managing Director/President adphos Digital Printing GmbH

    Dr. Bär is the Managing Director/President of the adphos Digital Printing GmbH. He is one of the founders of the IndustrieSerVis GmbH (legal predecessor of AdPhos). Before he was the leader of the business segment “High Temperature Technology and Installations” at IABG, Ottobrunn. Dr. Bär was responsible for the Technology-Program “HERMES-Heatstructure-Tests” and graduated as Dr.-Ing. (with award) at the faculty of mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen in Germany.

  • Elsa Callini

    Business Development Manager ebeam Technologies, Switzerland

    Elsa Callini got her PhD in Physics from the University of Bologna, after being a Visiting Research Student at the Chemistry Department of Aarhus University (DK) and Guest Student at the California Institute of Technology (USA). After having carried out her research at Empa in Duebendorf (CH) and at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (CH), she is now Business Development Manager at ebeam Technologies, a brand of COMET group. 

    Elsa counts more than 20 international collaborations with research institutes and laboratories, gave more than 15 invited lectures, is author of more than 25 Publications in international scientific journals and is active reviewer for 3 international scientific journals.

     

  • Edoardo Cotichini

    Manager Industrial Printing Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH, Germany

    After having worked for four years as a graphic designer in Rome, Edoardo moved to Dublin to work initially for Xerox Europe as Specialist in Printing Technology in 1999. After three years, he “switched sides” and worked as a Digital Printing and Graphic Design Supervisor in La Spezia, Italy, at Publisystem Snc., before moving to Brussels to work for Creo Europe (then Eastman Kodak) as Digital Workflow Consultant (EAMER and Asia Pacific regions) from 2006 to 2012. As of then, Edoardo has been working for Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe as Business Development Manager and subsequently as Manager Industrial Printing.

    Edo holds over 20 years of varied expertise in the printing business and is a fan of graphics for the music industry as well as a font-lover. Having lived in four European countries within the last 20 years has made him a truly European Print evangelist, but in terms of football he clearly supports AS Roma. He now lives in Hannover, Germany, with his family.

  • Matthew Daniels

    R&D Global Packaging Capability Leader - Printing & Decoration Unilever, UK

    Graduated in 1992 with Diploma in Art & Design from Coleg Gwent, Wales. Between 1990 – 2003 held various Pre-press and Design roles with Bowater and Rexam Corrugated, before becoming Graphic Design Manager with SCA Packaging to develop HD Flexo Printing Capability and convert traditional Gravure Pre-print designs into HD Flexo.

    In June 2003, joined Unilever as Packaging Artwork Manager for Spreads & Cooking Products Category, Europe in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. For the next three years I supported the rolled out new innovation and renovation projects for Primary and Secondary branded packaging brands such as; Blue Band, Rama, Flora, Flora Pro-activ and Bertolli with external Print Management Agency (PMA). Another highlight during this period was to deliver a Hybrid Colour Harmonisation programme with Supply Management for Injection Moulded Label (IML) tubs and lids portfolio. My role during 2006 evolved into a Unilever One position for both Foods & HPC as Best Practice Manager for Artwork, where the focus for next three years was to; reduce complexity and standardise the role and responsibilities of packaging development teams across Europe. Improved PMA performance within Europe by defining continuous improvement plans from technical audits. A common process and global PMA roster was established and deployed into other emerging markets.

    In 2010, returned to U.K. as Global Packaging Capability Leader for Printing & Decoration at Unilever R&D Port Sunlight. To explore and prove novel and disruptive technologies with Category Packaging & Procurement teams to differentiate Unilever branded products on-self and to excite and engage the consumer during use.

  • Frank de Jonge

    Business Development Director ARMOR industrial inks lab, Germany

    Frank started his career 30 years ago in the digital print industry. The first years were focus on laser printer based systems and consumables. In 2006 he joined Sensient as Business Development Manager. Frank quickly saw the opportunity for aqueous inkjet inks in industrial printing applications and was central contributor to develop industrial inkjet printing with water based inks. In April 2016 he joined Armor as a Business Development Director to set up and develop the Armor Industrial Inks Lab. Frank is known as a restless ambassador for driving challenging solutions using sustainable components in order to achieve food-grade solutions with little environmental impact. “

    He started his Xeikon career in July 2016 to strengthen the focus on the packaging segment. After completing his studies in Graphics Industry, Gert has gained over 20 years of Key Account Management experience in the packaging industry with leading European companies such as Van Genechten Packaging and Thimm Verpackung.

    Ben is Managing Director of HSG Packaging, a UK based corrugated plant. As an early adopter of true water based inkjet on corrugated Ben and his team have real, first-hand experience of what it takes to implement digital into a box plant. As a pioneer of the technology Ben has a real understanding of the challenges and opportunities for users of corrugated products through the supply chain.

    A real advocate of the “end to end” solution required to optimise the technology for box makers and box users all the way to the shelf or your customers front homes.

  • Michael Gluzman

    Design Lead Coca-Cola, USA

    Michael Gluzman is an Atlanta based designer currently working for The Coca-Cola Company. A Russian hailing from the Baltic state of Latvia, he’s proudly called Atlanta home since the age of three. He studied industrial design at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and discovered he was equally interested in many design disciplines. Michael began his career working with the likes of sculptural lighting designers, savvy digital agencies, and many endearingly quirky clients. He has lead design for Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Seagram’s, Mello Yello, and Fresca. His work includes visual identity design, packaging, photography, shopper marketing, print, and digital media.

    In his spare time, he likes to nerd out reading science fiction novels, design for clients of his own, and binge-watch Stranger Things.

    Michael lives with his brilliant wife Anne and their dog Tomato, who knows 3.5 tricks.

  • Jan De Roeck

    Director Solutions Management Esko, Belgium

    Jan De Roeck (°1966) leads and coordinates the market research and market visibility activities at Esko. From its headquarters in Gent, Belgium, Jan is actively involved in the creation of value proposition content supporting the go to market process for Esko solutions comprising software, hardware and services for the packaging, display and printing industry. Jan’s primary focus goes to content creation, market research, market visibility (CRM) and corporate strategy formulation.

    With a general printing and pre-press background and a specialization in graphic design, Jan began in 1989 with Barco as application specialist for digital image retouching. In his many years with the company, Jan held various product management and marketing positions, developing a particular interest, acumen and experience in solutions and workflows for the Packaging and Label Industry. Since early 2006, Jan holds the position of Director Solutions Management. At Esko, Jan is highly respected and trusted for his insight in the graphic arts industry and his level of understanding customer workflows and market requirements. Jan is a frequently asked speaker and moderator at various international seminars, events and trade conferences and represents Esko at different professional trade associations.

    Jan holds a degree from the Hoger Instituut voor Grafische Opleidingen (Higro), Grafische Vormgeving en Zeefdruk (Graphic Design and Screenp Printing). He complemented his graphic arts education with management training programs at the Ghent-Leuven Vlerick Business School where he completed the Advanced Management Program in 2007.

    Henrik Jensen worked as a Officer at the Danish Air Force. He obtain his Bachelor Degree Business Management and worked as an insureance salesman.

    He holds serveral senior management sales and marketing positions in Denmark and Germany.

    Since 2000, he has been working in senior management position in the paper industry and since 2013, he has been working as Managing Director at Cristiansen Print GmbH.

  • Urs V. Läuppi

    Senior Business Consultant - ebeam Expert ebeam Technologies, Switzerland

    Urs V. Läuppi is a mechanical engineer who spent most of his professional career in engineering and sales of particle accelerators and electron beam processing equipment. He worked for several well-known companies in this field, and since his retirement as director of sales of COMET’s ebeam Technologies, is engaged as consultant to the management of COMET for EB (electron beam) related matters. Urs also played a significant role in developing an ebeam laboratory system for ebeam Technologies and the world’s first EB dryer for digital/inkjet printing.   

    Urs V. Läuppi is a Founding Member of RadTech International North America and past President of RadTech Europe. He is the author and co-author of more than 100 publications on EB equipment and applications. In 2003 he published “EB-UV and Gamma Terms”, a German-English/English-German dictionary for radiation processing.

     

  • Rick Mazur

    Rick brings over 20+  years of experience in offset, flexo and digital printing production, along with functional background in sales enablement, outbound marketing execution, product development and demand generation for Kodak solutions that help commercial, publications and packaging printers participate more profitably with their customers. 

    Today, Rick leads Kodak’s efforts worldwide to employ inkjet digital printing to introduce innovative solutions that enable packaging designers and converters to deliver on a wide range of brand strategies including consumer engagement, package functionality, sustainability, and improved time to market, that only digital print can deliver.  This is accomplished by leveraging Kodak’s leading research and development competencies in digital imaging, material science and deposition technologies that are the building blocks for delivering the most productive inkjet printing solutions in the market today.

    Rick has held previous leadership positions with Kodak Polychrome Graphics and International Paper and has been active within industry organizations, such as Printing Industries of America, National Printing Equipment and Supplies (NPES), Book Manufacturers Institute (BMI) and Primir.

    Rick holds a BA in Economics from Rutgers University and MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and resides with his wife Susan and four children in Ridgefield, CT.

  • Sean Smyth

    Print Consultant Smithers Pira, UK

    Sean Smyth has spent over 25 years in the industry in senior technology positions for a variety of print businesses across the supply chain, in hands on and consultancy roles. He helps companies make money through the appropriate use of technology.

    Sean has a deep knowledge of the global print market, and a key member of the team providing quantitative market data and forecasts for the printing, paper and packaging industry. He authors off-the-shelf market studies and provides strategic consultancy services to a range of clients across the value chain.

    Sean has a strong background in appropriate application of technology to print, implementing digital print systems, MIS and workflows to take time and cost out of the print supply chain. In 1994 he became Technical Director of Rexam, where the first colour digital presses in the UK were installed and he has extensive experience of digital printing. He has written many books and market studies on the future, print technology and digital print, including Smithers Pira's flagship title "The Print & Production Manual" and the "Future of Global Print Markets".

    He has held senior management roles for several large and small print and print management companies where he applied systems and technology to improve efficiencies. He has a very strong background in digital printing, for users and suppliers. Currently he acts as a non-executive Director at REAL Digital International, the pioneer of high volume inkjet and electrophotographic print. He is the editor of "Digital Labels and Packaging" launched in 2010 for Whitmar Publications, and contributes regular technology columns and articles for the Trade Press and Smithers Pira journals

    Partnership Marketing Manager The Alexir Partnership, UK

    Claire did a Modern Languages degree at University and worked as an English teacher for 6 years in Madrid and Granada. She then returned to the UK and started working in Public Relations for a well-known importer of Spanish wine and food. She then moved to a larger wine importing company as Brand Manager, working with wineries around the world and selling into retailers and wholesalers. After doing a Diploma in Wine she became Marketing Manager with a team of Brand Managers. After a short period working as a freelance consultant she was offered a similar role in the Carton Packaging Industry and has been working at the Alexir Partnership for four years.

  • Nigel Tracey

    With 30 years’ experience in the print and packaging industries Nigel started his career in Die Making following an education at the London College of Printing. Now Head of Packaging at Scodix, a leading provider of digital print enhancement. Nigel’s passion is to bring digital processes to the packaging Industry with a strong focus in finishing. Working with packaging producers as well as brand owners to create profitable business growth through true brand differentiation in today’s highly competitive printing market. With a special interest in the folding carton and corrugated board industries, Nigel works with businesses to see how Scodix technology can boost the profitability and efficiency of their business models.

    Previously Nigel held senior positions at Highcon and Bobst, and is based in Switzerland.

  • Gilad Tzori

    Gilad is a veteran with over 30 years’ experience in the print industry. He began his career in R&D at Indigo, rising to manage the development of the product portfolio. Following his passion for a more market-facing role, he moved to lead the worldwide Service team at Indigo, overseeing its transition to a more responsive, customer-focused organization.

    One of the first people approached by Benny Landa when setting up Landa Digital Printing, Gilad has been in charge of product strategy since the beginning, defining and championing a portfolio of products, based on Landa’s Nanographic printing process, that meet the real challenges of today’s commercial printers and packaging converters.

    The customer remains at the heart of Gilad’s approach to product strategy, and, having visited hundreds of printers & converters in dozens of countries across 5 continents, he still claims to learn something new from every customer he meets.

  • Johan Van de Velde

    Principal Engineer Global Packaging Development AB InBev, Belgium

    Johan has over 12 years’ experience as a Project and Technical Manager after graduating as Master of Mechanical Engineering at the Catholic University of Leuven. He started his career with Procter & Gamble, where he lead the development of new and highly innovative equipment and production lines, supporting regional and global launches as Ariel Excel Gel and Ariel Pods.  Johan joined AB-Inbev, the largest biggest brewer, in 2013. As Global Packaging Development Engineer he continues to drive innovation with development and implementation of strategic projects worldwide.  Since several years he’s leading the Digital Printing research and development inside the company.

  • Claire Virazels

    Marketing Manager Production Colour & Packaging Technology Xerox Europe, France

    Claire Virazels works for Xerox since 1997 and has held various positions in Sales, Marketing and Management in France, Switzerland and now at European level.

    As Marketing Manager, she is currently in charge of the Production Colour Business Team (Xerox iGen Press and ColorPress), as well as the Digital Packaging Program and in parallel she brings management & marketing support to the German speaking countries in Europe. Claire is based in France and holds a Master from Neoma Business School in Rouen (France) and has also studied at the University of Bath in England.

    Askold Zimmermann is responsible for Business Development in Europe and helping existing and ongoing customers to automate the proofreading process. Askold works closely with GlobalVision business partners which provides Artwork Management Systems and Workflow Solutions to the pharmaceutical industry. GlobalVision’s technologies for Text & Graphics inspection, Braille and Barcode are seamlessly integrated in such management solutions and provide a real added value of automation to the proofreading process.

  • Ed Zumbiel

    Like you, a business leader and digital aficionado, Ed Zumbiel has spent most of his career in the packaging trenches.  And, like you, Ed has waited, with the patience of Job, for the development of digital machinery capable of satisfying the needs of high volume packaging customers.

    After over 20 years, with patience at an end, Ed commissioned a team of global leaders in digital printing and press manufacturing to engineer a high-speed digital paperboard packaging line for Zumbiel’s food, beverage and pharmaceutical customers.   Ed will provide highlights of the team’s digital odyssey, and details of the unique production capabilities as a result thereof.

    Ed is President of Zumbiel Digital, which evolved from Zumbiel Packaging, a 170 year old family-owned paperboard packaging firm headquartered in Hebron, KY.  Ed also serves on the Board of the Paperboard Packaging Council.
